Havering Council has stated that they will continue to fund the School Meal Holiday Scheme for vulnerable families during the February half-term.
On Monday 8th February, families were able to apply for £15 for each child to have free school meals to support them whilst schools were closed.
Applications for this scheme ran from 9am on Monday 8th February and closed at 5pm on Friday 12th February. Families were expected to receive the payments during the half-term period.
Leader of Havering Council, Councillor Damian White, said: “Funding school meals once again over February half term is just one part of a comprehensive package of support we have put in place for vulnerable households, especially those with children, to help them get through the difficult months.”
A local authority report from 2016 shows that 16% of children living in Havering live in low income families and as of 2019, Havering is the 25th most deprived borough in London.
Councillor Damian White continued: “We remain fully focused on making sure residents and businesses get the help and assistance they need to see them through this crisis.”
